There is nothing like getting together with friends and enjoying good food and drinks. However, even a refreshing drink can become a painful experience when you are experiencing gum recession. At PerioWest, Dr. Andrés R. Sánchez and staff may be able to help you enjoy your get-togethers without abandon by using the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique.
What is the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique?
The Pinhole® Surgical Technique, or PST™, is a minimally invasive procedure that helps to pull the gums back into place when they have receded due to infection or gum disease. Instead of cutting into the gums, a small pinhole-type incision is made and the gums maneuvered using a special tool to adjust the gums into the proper position. Strips of collagen are placed into the gums to help them stabilize, and the gums should heal in place over time.
The Benefits of Pinhole Surgical Technique
There are many advantages to using Pinhole Surgical Technique for receded gums. The procedure itself is relatively fast, taking only one to two hours to complete. Dr. Sánchez only needs to use a local anesthetic, so you can even drive yourself home afterward. You should be able to manage any pain with Tylenol® or Ibuprofen, which also means you can get back to your regular routine.
It is also possible to use PST™ on one area at a time, so you do not have to stress about fixing all of your gums at once if you have several areas that require treatment. Dr. Sánchez is able to treat up to 14 teeth in a single visit.
